46 Bear Zone Read
I want to take a look at a 46 Bear defense I like to use to bring the heat. The set up is pretty simple, so for those looking for some pressure without having to do a lot, this blitz scheme may be one you consider using.
The defense called is the 46 Bear Read. To set the defense up, we hot route the WDT to blitz. His blitz angle now will shoot straight at the LG.
Next, we want to take control of the LB who is playing QB Spy. We then hot route him to blitz.
We move him into the A Gap between the LG and C.
Next, we switch to the FS. At this point we don’t need to do anything else if the offense comes out in some type of under center play. However, if want to make sure the LB (who is in the A Gap between the C and LG) gets heat on the QB, we can hot route the FS to blitz.
We then move him into the A Gap between the C and RG.
We want to stay in control of the FS. He should be lined up about 3-5 yards from the line of scrimmage.
The idea of having the FS down in the box is to make at least one of offensive linemen think he is going to blitz. As soon as the ball is snapped, we want to let the FS come up a yard and then drop the him back over the deep middle.
This should confuse the pass protection allowing the LB shooting the A Gap between the C and LG to get pressure on the QB.
Notice while the LB shoots through, we drop the FS over the deep middle.
