Play: Strong I Normal-HB Screen(Dual HB Package)
Playbook: Many (ex: PITT)
Step 1. Block HB to the right
Step 2. Send the FB on a drag route under the screen blocking.
Step 3. Motion HB left and snap after he passes the LT.
Step 4.If facing a blitz, throw a quick lob to the FB. If facing coverage, wait until the FB is out underneath the blocking, and throw a bullet.
You can also use this technique to turn any WR screen play into a HB screen play.
Step 1. Hot route the WR running the screen to a fade route
Step 2. Smart route the fade route
Step 3. Send the HB on a drag route underneath the screen blocking.
Ive found this technique to be almost unstoppable, besides the pass getting knocked down sometimes.
I really like using this concept of turning WR Screens into HB screens because it provides me with two very solid options to pass to. The RB gets under the screen blocking and you can get a lot of yards after the catch because the RB has the ability to break a lot more tackles than most WR's. Secondly, you can rocket catch the smart routed fade route if the defense tries to jump the screen route. Smart routed fades develop quickly so you can throw them even with the screen blocking.
Thanks to deloz for his contributions with this breakdown. It is important to note that you can use the techniques found in this write-up with ANY HB or WR screen from ANY playbook and ANY formation.
