Play: 46 Normal- Fire Zone Press
Playbook: 46
*Note* Use the 46 Speed Package with this play- put your fastest DB as the 3rd string CB in the depth chart
Setup:
Step 1. LB Audible to the left (blitzes ROLB on the left of the screen)
Step 2. Place the WDT (left of the center) in a QB Contain
Step 3. Place the LDE (right of screen) into a QB Contain
Step 4. Place the blitzing MLB into a purple zone and slide him to the over the left slot WR
Step 5. Man up the blitzing LOLB (right of screen) onto the offenses biggest threat at WR
Step 6. Get in control of the blitzing ROLB- make sure he does not move and stays on the left hip of the RDE (left of screen)- move him up as much as you can without going offsides
Now at the snap of the ball you want to manual rush him off the edge. You will need to get practice the manual rush a little bit to get the feel and timing down. When done right, you will blow right by the LT and can sack the QB within 1-2 seconds. I have sacked the QB literally as he receives the ball in Shotgun many times.
What happens is that the WDT in the QB Contain will make the LT/LG to pause for a second and allow you to blow right by the LT.
The QB cannot roll out to the right because of our opposite DE in QB contain.
Every other defender is in coverage and there really is nowhere to throw the ball. Even the QB contains basically act as flat zones.
If the offense runs a lot or audibles from shotgun to under center so much you do not have time to make all the changes, you can pinch your DL and run this with all the other adjustments the same. You can still blow by the LT with the DL pinched, however the angle you have to take is a bit different and takes some practice.
The counter to this is to slide protect left. However, if this is done to you, we have a simple counter to this that will bring just as much heat with just as much coverage.
Here is the alternate setup:
Step 1. LB Audible to the left (blitzes ROLB on the left of the screen) AND LB Audible to the right (blitzes LOLB on the right of the screen)
Now after you perform step one, place the blitzing LOLB (right of screen) on the right hip of the LDE (right of screen)
Step 2. Place the WDT (left of the center) in a QB Contain
Step 3. Blitz the LDE (right of screen)
Step 4. Place the blitzing MLB into a purple zone and slide him to the over the left slot WR
Step 5. Get in control of the blitzing ROLB- make sure he does not move and stays on the left hip of the RDE (left of screen)- move him up as much as you can without going offsides
Now with this setup, when the offense snaps the ball if the slide protect left, simply drop back into coverage with the ROLB you are controlling. If they do not slide protect left, manually rush just as would before.
It is really easy to tell if the offense slides protects to the left. Their whole offensive line will slide to the left after the snap.
With this setup, if they slide protect to the left, the LOLB will come off the right edge untouched and be in the QB's face in 1-2 seconds. If they do not, you manually rush and someone will be in the QB's face in a second.
Final Thoughts:
I used the Cowboys and had Scandrick at this blitzing spot. The faster DB you have the better, however I would say anyone over 94 speed will work fine.
